After devastating Florida, Ian regained strength off the US Atlantic coast on Thursday, September 29, 2022. It is again classified as a Category 1 hurricane as it approaches Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. As it approached the southeast coast of the United States Thursday evening, Sept. 29, 2022, Storm Ian strengthened back into a hurricane, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.
Ian, which devastated the southwest coast of Florida on Wednesday afternoon before heading back out to the Atlantic, was about 300 miles (480 km) south-southwest of Cape Fear, North Carolina, Thursday evening with winds maximum of 120 km / h, said the NHC in a bulletin.
“Ian may strengthen slightly before making landfall tomorrow (Friday) and should weaken rapidly as it crosses the southeastern United States between Friday and Saturday,” the NHC added.
